Back in the game

It's been forever !

I have not posted on this personal blog for such a long time !!! So I decided to start again. I also started a travel lifestyle blog www.paperplanetheblog.com and so I felt like my personal blogging would make me feel free to blog about anything I want, in parallel of blogging about Travel in a more professional way.

I am spending the summer in Canada, and after finally graduating from college I decided to try to have a better food lifestyle, try new food and new routines to feel better in my own body. After four years in America I realized how much food can change your life, make you feel better and healthier.

So I'll be talking about some food adjustment that I made and different beauty subjects. Stay tuned

Let's go to JAPAN, baby !

Dear Anne Beatrice:

We are happy to inform you that you have been officially admitted to the Asian Studies Program at Kansai Gaidai University for the fall semester of 2013. All the faculty and staff members of the Asian Studies Program are looking forward to welcoming you to our campus.

I can not express how excited I am to go study abroad in Japan, it's been one of my biggest dream ! In 2 weeks I will be back home in Europe and I will get my flight ticket for Asia. Until then I pretty much live at the library to be able to pass my finals... :(

FIVE A DAY

After spring break,
I decided to try to eat everyday 5 portions of fruit and vegetable. First of all, it's not cheap at all ! Here in America, fruits and vegetables can be expensive, so when I go grocery shopping I focus on fruits and vegetables that aren't too expensive like: cucumber, grapes, apple, carrots. Of course I wish my 5 portions would be all like strawberries, mango, pineapple... but those can be a bit pricy sometimes like $6 for strawberries :(

Also if you are going to start doing this you need to try to plan ahead and determine how much of what is actually a portion.

An on-going research is trying to show that skin tones change after 6 weeks of eating 5 portions a day.

To help you determine what is a portion this pdf will be very helpfull:

Florida stole my heart.

It's Spring Break y'all !
With my sorority sisters, we headed to Destin, Florida for a relaxing Spring Break in a beautiful resort. Even though the weather was not too great, we still got a good day at the beach and the hot tubs. As always we ate a ton of good food, including crab cakes and oysters. I slept pretty much all the way there and back. Now it's time to get a bit of study done because there is only one month of class left before finals. But the great news is that when I got to my computer, I discovered that Kansai Gaidai University got my application in the mail. Crossing my finger to see my status change to accepted...

The AFTER diet.

I have to admit it, I though the diet was going to be the hardest but really the after diet is not easy. I felt a bit lost after three days of only eating what a paper printed from a blog tells me, I just had no idea how I was suppose to feed myself.

But, I kept eating pretty healthy, still  have not drink any soda. I had a huge diner at Olive Garden that I did regret, and I also had some Krystal food (never again). After three days of only eating a bit of food do not binge eat after, or eat very  greasy food, your stomach will hurt badly, I found out the hard way.

Finally still feel the result of this diet, I might even do it again sometimes this summer.

Observations & Results

While I was doing the diet, I try to choose three days that were not to busy, they actually end up being two pretty busy days and the third was a study day (saturday). I would actually recommend choosing day were you are a bit busy because it helped me not to think to much about food or what I wish I could eat. Avoid study days or week end, because they are rough you have less things to do so you want to eat all the time (in my case). You need to drink a lot of water !!!! I insist drink a lot, in my water I put a slide of lemon that helps me not to be too hungry.

The idea of going on a diet started when i watched this Ted Talk about "Biohacking"
sorry the video is in french, if you understand french I recommend you watch it.

RESULTS

Breakfasts were the best, they got me enough energy for morning class and were enjoyable to eat. Lunches are the hardest because they are small and not as satisfying, during the afternoons I'm easily tired but after an hour or two of being tired, I feel more energy.
Diners are the best part because the diet lets you eat more.

Overall I have to admit that I probably lost 3 to 4 pounds, overly my belly is flat and I look skinnier. But the best thing that I learn with diet is that, I do not need a huge amount to food everyday, specially junk food. I also learned to control portion. So from now on, instead of eating how much I want, I'll eat how much I need, or at least I will try.

After this diet, I'm going to continue eating like I ate before just reduce a bit on junk food, I might keep on doing the breakfast like the two first days of the diet. Being on a strict diet made me appreciate the fact that I have a high metabolism and that I do not need to diet in general.

The blog where I found this diet, as very long explanation about pretty much any question you could have. It also says that you should continue to work out even the day you are doing the diet, I did not. And after the diet you can take a break of 4 days and start again.

Finally as I already said the aim in my case was not specially to drop weight like crazy but to experiment something new, I never ever diet before so this was a first.

The 3 Day Military Diet - WHY ?

Few days ago I decided to try the popular diet called "The 3 Day Military Diet". Since then, I gain a lot of follower on instagram, and many people asked me question about this diet. The most frequent question is: WHY are you on a diet ?
For those who know me in "real" life, I definitely don not need a diet, specially one that claims, "you can loose up to 10 pounds (so about 5kg) in 3 days." But If you know me you also know that my everyday diet is farrrrrr from being healthy. Some example of breakfast, lunch and diner I had in the past couple weeks.

I don't have a weight problem, and did not do this diet to particularly loose weight but instead to see if I could follow a strict diet without snack or sweet drinks (my weakness) and also to see how my body would react. For those you expect a number to be drop, sorry, I actually don't even own a scale so I don't know my exact weight.

Instead, in my next post I'll share with you the component of this diet, how I felt during these 3 days, how I dealt with cutting portion and for the first time of my life having restriction on food.

It's not just a good day, it's a good life...

"Look at the bigger picture", we heard that all the time, but how little we apply this great advice. We complain a lot in our everyday life, I complain a lot, but I saw that college helped me to look at the bigger picture, to be happy because I am chasing my dream.

Even on a rainy day in Milledgeville with wet feet and not enough sleep, I would not trade this life.
I am currently 70 days and 18 hours away from stepping in a European airport and I have never been so excited to see the Old Continent but I will get the best of my days left in America.

PS: If you read that blog please leave comment on what you would like to hear about (american tradition, college admission, visa, life as a foreign student in America, Go Campus, Calvin Thomas) and which language you would rather me writing in.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

January is a wake up call, a cold water bucket thrown in your face. The snow man just slap you in a face with reality. Vacation are over and we are back in school, I am back in school.
18 hours this semester, all I can say if that motivational speech like the Kid President Pep Talk are more than welcome

But with January it's not only about challenges, opportunities come along too and it is a bowl of fresh air with a chance, to do better, to be better and set great goals for this coming year.

"Chicago, that toddling town... Chicago, I'll show you around"

After day wandering with my partner in crime in the Windy city, we are finally getting our way around.

The absence of snow was at first disappointed until we could finally see snowflakes on the sidewalks.
The cold gets to your bones but the city is refreshing and you want to get more everyday. My first step as a traveller in America were in Chicago and sometimes i wonder if it all makes sense. I am destined to come back here all over again ?

Eat Yourself - Goldfrapp -

MY LIFE @ GCSU

SOCIAL LIFE

WHAT's NEXT ?

First A thanks to Awkward Robert

I got my first "A" ever with an essay about something personal, I never really thought I would enjoy writting but I actually liked it. Well here is the story.

Escargots to Hamburger

It took little more than a week and I had already passed the honeymoon period, I love the United States but I went through a culture shock right in the middle of my Sociology class. “Confused” and “It’s ok” are my usual responses to the excited american college students who ask me “If I like it here”.

One day on my way to my global issues and society class I was greeted at the classroom door by a young man who was soon to be one of the most awkward college students I have ever had the chance to meet, I like to call him, awkward Robert. Of course he asked me “where I was from”, It’s not easy to hide an accent like mine when I am surrounded by southern belles. During the second class, there was no way to avoid it, he came and sat next to me, I could feel him gazing at me during all of the lecture. Then he asked me if I wanted to have a coffee with him, I couldn’t say no because I thought it would be rude. To my horror and my own wonder I ended up giving my phone number to Robert.

I don’t even fully remember how this disaster occured. He was such a southern gentleman and did many silly things that ended up embaressing him. As we were heading to the Black Bird Coffee, a nice place down town, where apparently they serve the best coffee, he took care not to walk too fast or too slow and then pulled the door open for me. It was arround twelve in the afternoon and there was a cool breeze. It took him forever to choose one of the ten coffe, Robert finally ordered a iced green tea for me and a moka coffee, he payed for it all, which is unsual in France because we would just each pay for our drink. Thus begun my first american date.

He pulled my chair back for me and we sat, I felt like we talked forever and I remember checking my watch a lot. I had my phone stuck in my hand but I didn’t want to check it because it is impolite where I come from. As his large eyes stared at me, Robert started drinking his coffee and ened up pouring some of it on himself. A few minutes later he spilt it on himself again. Then he began to start questioning me all about my self, my country, my family and my hobbies. I answered all these in the quickest way possible. It has been a week and I still hear those same questions daily. Behind us a young dad arrived with two babies, one in a stroller and the other one in his arm. He obviously liked babies and spent at least the next 15 minutes talking about the fact that he had five siblings and loved taking care of kids. At this point any girl would think that is sweet but the annoying “awww” is not for me. I don’t underdstand the fascination for those minature humans, they mostly bother me exept for my nephew. When I said that out loud I heard him express his dissatisfaction with the odd “oh” sound.

As the discussion continued he set his hand on the table and his long arm could reach my side of the table easily, Robert started nervously twitching his fingers. At the end of the date he still had his hand on the same spot, probably hoping that I would put mine on the table and he could grab it. I literally felt like a deer trying to escape from the hunter, I was Bambi and I needed to get out of this coffee shop whitout having any physical contact. I finally looked at my phone, and it was 1:37 pm, my spanish class was still half an hour away but I told him I had to go to the International Education Center before going to class. He then walked with me to the Lanier building .On the way there he asked me several questions twice in a row and also told me that his first class was early that morning, fact I already knew because we are in the same class. I was beginning to think that he would never leave me alone and as we approached Lanier hall he opened the door for me and finally left me.

I wish this epic story would end up as simple as this.Though in the same evening that I was telling my new american and foreign friends about this date, I received a text from my date in an approximately french text which translated came close to meaning “ I had a good time with you today, beautiful Anna”. Well on my side I didn’t have a good time but I couldn’t text back to say that, so I just didn’t respond hoping he would get the message. The worst part of this american adventure is that as much as I don’t want to see him I have to because I have to spend two hours per week in the same room and avoid him for the rest of the semester. The following Monday hopefully would be better.

During the weekend I thought of many ways to say no to another invitation or just avoid talking to Robert without being too brutal. When I finaly went to class I decided to arrive just on time to get a seat quickly in the front so I wouldn’t have to sit next to him. I didn’t look at the people when I entered so we would not have to glance at each other. This first part of the plan worked so well that I didn’t even know if he was in the room or not and I didn’t turn back to look.
While I was almost asleep during the lecture about Weapons of Mass Destruction a very intersting american subject, the fire alarm went off, this shrill noise totally woke me up. All the students took their bag and books and we started evacuating the room. I had forgoten the existance of Robert for a few moments until someone held the door for me and it was him. I have no idea how he arrived next to me but he succeeded in this operation. We had a short random conversation with no interesting topics and I sneaked out of the group and took a different way than the class to go back to campus. While on front campus I tried to be careful not to get too close to my group because I didn’t want to speak with Robert. When we were allowed to go back to class I just decided to go directly to my second class because we only had 5 minutes left.

Tomorrow at 8am I will use the same technique to not seat next to Robert or have to speak to him, and hopefully in few classes I won’t have to try to avoid him and it will stop being awkward and odd to pass him in the hall way or in class.

Music will inspire you

It's been a week that I'm seek and I've been throuhg this "I'll never feel better again" phase. I'm starting to get better thanks to penicillin, my caring new friends and a muse jacket. A week end out of the crazy sorority life and college parties was more than necessary.

While I'm in my new room in Sanford doing some homework, I listen "Things We Love To Do" and "Happiness Alone". Chicago is so far but I had a great time this summer. I have listened Darrick Thompson album so much that I know by heart most of the songs. I have this only CD, "I was an Aeroplane", on my shelf in the middle of all those the school book, between sociology and english composition. This past week I spend a lot of time in my bed and that's where my relationship with my ipod started, he became my best friend and keept me from feeling lonely and Darrick's songs remind me my time in Chicago. As much as I love it here in Georgia, I think Chicago is a place where I could live in someday.
